Big congratulations to Cathy, Carrie and Chris who all ran the Belfast Marathon to raise funds for SAM.
Between them they raised over £1750!
We really appreciate their hard work and training, and their fantastic fundraising effort!

THE EMERALD BALL
2010
The Europa Hotel played host on Saturday March 13th 2010
to the star-studded SAM Emerald Ball.
The event raised a truly staggering £86,000 which will be used to fund research projects which aim to find an effective treatment for Congenital Muscular Dystrophy (CMD).
FACE OFF FOR
SAM - BELFAST GIANTS
Belfast
Giants were victorious in their January 30th match vs Nottingham Panthers.
To launch SAM as the Giants chosen charity of the year the team wore a special one-off SAM strip in the charity's colours of yellow and blue.
Following the match the players' shirts were auctioned on the SAM website.
SPIN FOR
SAM in conjunction with Irish Racer
Northern
Ireland's sporting superstars turned out in force to show their support for SAM. The 12 hour Sponsored Spin was held in conjunction
with the Irish Racer Awards at the Ramada on Friday 15th
January 2010.
Participants found themselves 'spinning' alongside the cream of Irish motorcycling including Jeremy McWIlliams, Johnny Rea, Eugene, John & Michael Laverty, Ian Lowry and also some of the big names of World Superbikes including Loris Capirossi, Leon Hasslin and Cal Crutchlow.
Local sporting heroes including Gerry Armstrong, Keith Gillespie, Gordon Crockard, Jackie Fullerton, Stephen Watson and players from Cliftonville, Glentoran, Crusaders and the Belfast Giants.
Many thanks to all who took part - helping to raise over £4,500!

The
Hillsborough
'boutique
clique' recently
joined
forces
to stage
a
fashion
show
which
highlighted
the
hottest
of this
season's
fashions
in a bid
to raise
money
for the
SAM
campaign.
The village's hottest night spot, Bar Retro played host to the "Sex and the City" themed show on Wednesday 2nd December where models hit the catwalk to showcase fabulous fashions from local boutiques - Candy Plum and Lacy May's.
The show was fabulous with hair by Shane Bennett and make-up by Clare Mckinney!
This
evening
was a
sell-out,
raising
£1,500
for the
charity.

NEW YORK
MARATHON
Sam's
Aunty,
Sharon
Letters,
successfully
completed
the NYC
marathon
and
raised a
whopping
£6,000
for SAM.
We hope that her feet will soon recover and want her to know how incredibly proud we are of her super achievement.

FESTIVAL
SAM
had the
honour
of being
chosen
as the
featured
charity
for the
17th
Hillsborough
Oyster
Festival,
the
second
largest
event on
the
Northern
Irish
calendar.
The festivities spanned four action-packed days and nights, opening with a Fashion Extravaganza in the festival marquee showcasing ladieswear from Magowans of Ballynahinch....

non-uniform

Tracy and Sam received the cheque from pupils following a special assembly where Tracy deivered a presentation on CMD and its effects.
Cambridge House have named SAM as their chosen charity for their centenary celebrations in 2010.

Gleave Dobbin.
Over £2,000 was raised at the event.

FOOTIE FOR SAM - GLENTORAN FC.
The players of Glentoran Football Club donned a one off
PleaseFixSam.com sponsored shirt at Good Friday's top of
the table Premiership League clash with Linfield at The
Oval.
Glentoran's main sponsor fonaCAB kindly agreed to let SAM take the prime billing on the Glentoran shirts for this match which was televised live on SKY Sports to an audience of 3.5 million viewers.
After the game the special match shirts were auctioned off to raise funds for SAM.
CYCLE FOR SAM - LANDS END TO JOHN O'GROATS

Jim, Nigel and Diane from Madabout raised over £2,000 by cycling this epic journey.
GET GORGEOUS FOR SAM - FASHION SHOW
Hillsborough
Castle was the sophisticated setting for the first SAM
(Struggle Against Muscular Dystrophy) Fashion Show which
took place on Thursday 26th March.
The show provided something for everyone, with collections ranging from casual daywear, stylish suits and dresses to totally glamorous designer evening wear.
Clothing, handbags and accessories all from Paparazzi, Lisburn. Proceeds from the evening totalled an impressive £3,000.
THE
EMERALD BALL - A HUGE SUCCESS
On 14th March 2009 the Europa Hotel played host to one of the newest, biggest and most exciting black tie events on the NI social calendar.
The Emerald Ball, hosted by actor James Nesbitt and television personality Emma-Louise Johnston got off to a fabulous start with a champagne reception. Guests mingled in the Europa's long gallery to the sounds of the hauntingly beautiful Nua Band, whose eclectic mix of Irish folk music fused with an upbeat modern tone gave a nod to the event's Irish theme.
LAUGH FOR SAM - COMEDY NIGHT

Friday 27th February, the
Laughter Lounge Odyssey Pavilion
Belfast was the venue for an
evening of comedy.
200 people had a rip-roaring
time in aid of S.A.M. - raising
a magnificent £4,000 in the
process.
BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S BALL
Malone Lodge Hotel was the venue for a fabulous tiffany themed black tie event in aid of S.A.M. on 26th January.
Almost 100 people attended the evening of glamour, good food and entertainment and a staggering £7,500 was raised for the charity.
Kind thanks to Cara Macklin and the staff of the Malone Lodge for running this wonderful evening in aid of S.A.M.

GET ARTY FOR SAM - JASON MILLAR PRINT LAUNCH
Over 150 of Belfast's glitterati turned up for the VIP launch of the limited edition print "Dancing the Night Away" by Jason Millar at Malmaison on 22nd January.
The evening created a great buzz about the charity, and has generated a lot of interest in the Emerald Ball which will take place in the Europa on March 14th.

SPIN FOR SAM - QUB PEC

On Friday 29th November almost 300 people joined the sponsored 12 HOUR SPIN FOR SAM at QUB PEC.
The event was co-ordinated by Gordon Crockard, Paul McGuire and Wes Kettyle. Participants completed a minimum of 1 hour spinning class with many participants signing up for anything up to the full 12 hours!! The event raised well over £4000.
Our thanks to everyone who got involved in the event - we appreciate the fantastic effort you all made to help make a difference.
JUMP FOR SAM - FREEFALL PARACHUTE JUMP
So
far almost 30 people have been crazy enough to throw
themselves out of a plane in order to raise a staggering
10,000 for SAM!! Jumping from 13,000 ft with 45
seconds of freefall this is a must for all adrenalin
junkies!
If you are interested in jumping for S.A.M. please email contact@helpsam.info to register! (Jumpers must be aged between 16 and 60 and there is a weight limit of 15 stone for men and 13 for women. Each jumper will be asked for a commitment fee of £40 (non-refundable).
The cost of the jump is £200 so we request a minimum sponsorship of £350 in the hope that people will raise much more!)

CYCLE FOR SAM - AFGHANISTAN
Whilst
stationed in Afghanistan the officers and men of 2 Royal
Irish IMJIN Company were so moved by Sam's story that
they got on their bikes in the searing 45 degree heat of
the desert to cycle the 6000km distance from Camp
Bastion to Ballymena in order to raise funds for the
charity. The miles were steadily whittled down by these
dedicated soldiers on their exercise bike in their
makeshift camp gym.
A cheque for £4000 was presented by Sgt Gary Wilkins at the medals parade in Hillsborough on 11th October. READ MORE
CYCLE FOR SAM - TOUR DE FRANCE
Lease
Options MD Paul McGuire together with Wes Kettyle from
Cooke & Kettyle Quantity Surveyors swapped their sombre
saloons and suits for carbonfibre racing bicycles and
lycra, as they undertook a gruelling 179km leg of the
2008 Tour de France to raise funds for SAM.
Paul and Wes successfully completed the L'Etape du Tour Mondovelo stage in the Pyrenees, from Pau to Hautacam. The famous stage incorporates the Tour's most famous climb, the Tourmalet climbing the biggest summit of the Pyrenees.
Thanks to their efforts over £3000 was raised!

TEE OFF FOR SAM - GOLF DAY
SAM was this year's beneficiary of the annual
fonaCAB Radisson Hotel Golf Day.
Big wigs, business men and the hoi polloi of the NI social set competed in the tournament at Shandon Park Golf Club. Following the golf the evening events included dinner and an auction. A great day out was had by all.
PARLIAMENTARY LOBBY
SAM
joined forces with sufferers of Duchenne and Becker
Muscular Dystrophy who gathered at Westminster to lobby
parliament and ask them to redress the historically poor
levels of research funding over the last 10 years by
ring fencing £30m of funding for new research and
clinical trials.
OTHER EVENTS
Numerous coffee mornings have taken place over the past few months. Other events over recent months have included Jo Jingles (music and movement for children), non-uniform days, quizzes, sponsored events and more.
These events are not just about raising funds for vital research – they are also about spreading the word and telling as many people as possible about Muscular Dystrophy.
